Ocean Clock: Our Story

The trigger

Stéphanie's family has been farming oysters on Lake Hossegor for five generations. The tides dictate the schedules, the actions, and the habits. It was in this environment that the idea for Ocean Clock was born: to revive a forgotten, yet emblematic object of the French coast.

The story begins

1
The idea behind Ocean Clock was born from a family heirloom: an old tide clock, gifted to Stéphanie’s parents as a wedding present. Our challenge? To simplify this measuring instrument and give it a modern twist. After months of research and testing, our very first tide clock came to life.

Taking the plunge

2
Our first clock came to life right in our living room, handcrafted with the resources we had on hand. We placed a few prototypes in a shop in Hossegor and a customer bought them immediately. That was the beginning of the adventure. The piece won hearts with its story… and its minimalist design, perfectly suited to modern interiors.

The time has come

3
Two years after launching the tide clock, our customers began asking for clocks that tell the time. So, we introduced a collection of classic wall clocks, carrying the same clean aesthetic as our iconic model. The range gradually expanded, and our workshop grew alongside us.

The family is growing

4
Starting in 2020, we began applying our know-how to other measuring instruments: first the barometer, then the thermometer, and more recently, the moon phase clock. Each piece follows the same philosophy combining function and beauty, simplifying without losing essence, modernizing without compromising authenticity.

New workshop

5
In 2022, we left our small workshop to move into a new, larger studio in Soorts-Hossegor. Better equipped and filled with natural light, it’s the perfect space where we design, test, assemble, and prepare every order with the same care as on day one.

Our crew

6
Behind Ocean Clock, there’s no big industrial group just a small, local, and dedicated team, including Stéphanie’s two sisters. Hands that sand, eyes that inspect, voices that respond to you with care. James, Stéphanie, and everyone who has joined the adventure share the same passion: to create beautiful, lasting objects and to do things well, simply.

In 2025, Ocean Clock officially became a Made in France brand a recognition that highlights our commitment from the very beginning. Our products are not only designed and assembled in our workshop but are also largely manufactured on-site or by trusted local artisans. This approach reflects our values perfectly.

We'll tell you a little more

Attachment to Hossegor and the Landes

Attachment to Hossegor and the Landes
Ocean Clock was born in Hossegor, in the Landes region, a place that continues to inspire our creations. It is here, between lake and ocean, that our story takes root.
Our connection to this region is essential: it influences our visual world, our choice of materials, and our values. We are proud to represent, in our own way, this corner of France where nature and craftsmanship meet.

What “manufacturer” means to us

For us, being a manufacturer isn't just about assembling. It's about thinking, drawing, testing, adjusting, and starting over. It's about being involved in every step of the creation process, with rigor and passion.
From cutting the wood to installing the hands, including the finishing touches, each piece is the result of genuine workshop work, combining artisanal know-how and demanding quality.

The tide clock as an emblematic piece

The tide clock is much more than a practical object.
It tells a story. That of the people of the coast, the sailors, the surfers, the fishermen, those who practice kitesurfing, the coastal walk, those who build sandcastles at low tide, simply those who love the ocean.

A brand driven by values

At Ocean Clock, we wanted to bring this instrument back to life.
Our version, both graphic and timeless, fits naturally into interior decoration while retaining its original function.

Ocean Clock is not a brand like the others

Behind every creation, there's a desire: to create useful, lasting, and meaningful objects. Pieces that tell a story and find their place in your daily life, without the superfluous.
It is this vision of decoration, simple and functional, that we have defended since our beginnings.
