Ocean Clock: Our Story

The trigger

Stéphanie's family has been farming oysters on Lake Hossegor for five generations. The tides dictate the schedules, the actions, and the habits. It was in this environment that the idea for Ocean Clock was born: to revive a forgotten, yet emblematic object of the French coast.

Ocean Clock a story

The Ocean Clock Story

2014

The story begins

1
The idea for Ocean Clock was born from a family heirloom: an antique tide clock, given as a wedding gift to Stéphanie's parents. Simplifying this measuring instrument and making it more contemporary was the challenge we set ourselves! After months of research and testing, our first tide clock was born.

Jump into the water

2
Our first clock was born in our living room, made with whatever we had at hand. The prototypes were delivered to a shop in Hossegor. A customer immediately purchased them. The adventure began. The object seduces with its history... and its refined design, perfectly suited to today's interiors.

The time has come

3
Two years after the launch of the tide clock, our customers are asking us for clocks that tell the time. We are launching a collection of classic clocks, which reflect the aesthetic codes of our iconic model. The range is slowly expanding. Our workshop is growing with us.

The family is growing

4
From 2020, we began to apply our expertise to other measuring instruments: first the barometer, then the thermometer, and more recently the lunar clock. Each object follows the same philosophy: combine the useful and the aesthetic, simplify without impoverishing, modernize without betraying.

New workshop

5
In 2022, we're moving from our small manufacturing space to a new workshop in Soorts-Hossegor. Larger, better equipped, and still bathed in natural light. There, we design, test, assemble, and prepare each order with the same attention to detail as on the first day.

Our crew

6
Behind Ocean Clock, there's not an industrial group, but a small, committed local team, including Stéphanie's two sisters. Hands that sand, eyes that check, voices that respond attentively. James, Stéphanie, and everyone who has joined the adventure share the same desire: to create beautiful, durable objects and to do things well, simply.

A well-established brand

7
Ten years after the somewhat crazy idea of modernizing an old tide clock, Ocean Clock has become a recognized brand, distributed in more than 250 stores worldwide, and appreciated for its strong identity and high standards of quality. Our goal remains the same: to offer useful, aesthetically pleasing, and durable creations.

Made in France

8
In 2025, Ocean Clock officially becomes a Made in France brand, a recognition that highlights our commitment from the beginning. Our products are not only designed and assembled in our workshop, but also largely manufactured on site or by trusted craftsmen. An approach consistent with our values.

We'll tell you a little more

Attachment to Hossegor and the Landes

Attachment to Hossegor and the Landes
Ocean Clock was born in Hossegor, in the Landes region, a place that continues to inspire our creations. It is here, between lake and ocean, that our story takes root.
Our connection to this region is essential: it influences our visual world, our choice of materials, and our values. We are proud to represent, in our own way, this corner of France where nature and craftsmanship meet.

What “manufacturer” means to us

For us, being a manufacturer isn't just about assembling. It's about thinking, drawing, testing, adjusting, and starting over. It's about being involved in every step of the creation process, with rigor and passion.
From cutting the wood to installing the hands, including the finishing touches, each piece is the result of genuine workshop work, combining artisanal know-how and demanding quality.

The tide clock as an emblematic piece

The tide clock is much more than a practical object.
It tells a story. That of the people of the coast, the sailors, the surfers, the fishermen, those who practice kitesurfing, the coastal walk, those who build sandcastles at low tide, simply those who love the ocean.

A brand driven by values

At Ocean Clock, we wanted to bring this instrument back to life.
Our version, both graphic and timeless, fits naturally into interior decoration while retaining its original function.

Ocean Clock is not a brand like the others

Behind every creation, there's a desire: to create useful, lasting, and meaningful objects. Pieces that tell a story and find their place in your daily life, without the superfluous.
It is this vision of decoration, simple and functional, that we have defended since our beginnings.
