Your lunar clock

The lunar cycle lasts an average of 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes. This duration is not exactly the same for every lunar cycle: it can naturally vary by a few hours from one month to another.

EXPLANATIONS

Our lunar clock operates using a regular mechanism based on the average lunar cycle of 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes.
[The central line of our diagram represents this average cycle.]

→ It is therefore perfectly normal to occasionally observe a difference of a few hours between the position of the hand and the Moon’s actual phase.

Variations that balance out over the course of the year.

The graph above illustrates the cumulative difference over the course of the year.

A slightly longer lunar cycle can shift the difference in one direction, while a shorter cycle can then bring it back in the opposite direction. The differences therefore do not simply add up month after month: they compensate for one another.

In 2026, for example, the difference varies throughout the year before returning to just +1 hour and 9 minutes in December.
